Weekend Picnics

Will, Eliza and I attended 2 picnics last weekend. The first was for the English department at KU. I only know a handful of Will's English buddies but I was the one encouraging him to go and socialize. :)

A friend of mine and her husband and children were also there so that may or may not have been my reason for going!

(No pictures from that event.)

The second round of picnic was for MOPS (the mom group I'm involved in). We had a kick-off picnic to welcome old moms back for the year and meet some new moms.

We held it at the church where we meet for our meetings. We had a great time! It was fun having our husbands and children there with us.

Some of our good friends who we also attend church and small group with. We get to see a lot of them! :)

Sweet baby HW!

It was a really fun start to the new MOPS year!

Just a side note: In case you are unfamiliar with MOPS it is an international organization and most towns/cities have a MOPS chapter. It is a Christian organization but it is not overtly Christian or church-y. It is really a great place to meet other women who are in the same stage of life and to have a built in support group. The MOPS website is www.mops.org if you want to check it out.

Friday Afternoon Fun

On Friday afternoon Will and I took Eliza to the pool in downtown Lawrence. This is the first time we've ventured to this pool this summer because most of the time when we drove by it was packed! But this late in the summer it was the perfect time to go!

This pool is so big and fun! There is a great zero-entry area for the little kiddos with lots of fountains. For the big kids and adults there are two slides and a high dive. Will and I took turns going down the slide a couple of times. :)

Eliza seemed to really enjoy splashing in the pool.

Riding on the whale.

Even my husband who is not a pool-person really enjoyed himself and said he could enjoy this pool!
Good, because I hope to go back next Friday before it closes for the year.

Lucky for us Lawrence also has an indoor aquatic center near our house that also has a great play area for little ones! I have a feeling we may go a few times this winter!

Small Group Social

Will and I have been attending Grace EPC (similar to PCA) in Lawrence since we moved here last July. It is a great church and we are so glad to have found it. Most of the friends I have made in Lawrence are from this church. There are still many ways that I want to get involved-- the children's ministry, women's ministry, etc. but one thing Will and I are so thankful for is the small group we joined in January.

The small group is made up of 6 couples with young children that are all relatively new to Lawrence (the perfect fit for us). We meet three times a month-- twice we meet and discuss the previous week's sermon and the goings-on in life and the third time we have a group social with the children.

We took a break from meeting during the summer since we were all coming and going at different times but with the school year starting back we decided to have a Taco Night group social. Jon and April (our fearless leaders and new neighbors) hosted the event. The host family provides the main dish and the rest of us bring the fixings. I so look forward to our group socials!

This one did not disappoint. I even brought along our camera to document the fun. There are 11 children under 5 (plus 1 on the way!) between the 6 families so it was a busy time for all. :)

1st Trimester Wrap-Up

This pregnancy seems very similar if not better than my first. I know, I know... That doesn't make me popular with the moms that have really tough first trimesters/pregnancies.

I happen to really love pregnancy! Of course the first trimester still zaps me of energy, I feel queasy and have aversions to some food but that seems pretty mild to some of the stories I've heard.

Having Eliza during this pregnancy keeps me from realizing just how tired I am and from resting as much as I did the first time around. But that just means I'm in the bed asleep by 8:30/9 most nights!

I'm hoping my energy comes back soon and I can get back into a workout routine. I had to take a break from exercise last pregnancy too. (Note: I exercised for the first time yesterday. I just eased back into it with 30 minutes of cardio and some weights but it felt great!)

We had our first ultrasound last Friday and it was SO fun to see the baby!!

Something about actually seeing the baby on the monitor makes it so real. We heard our sweet baby's heart beat (163) and saw him/her bouncing around in there! Seeing the baby's movements really makes me look forward to feeling them! That was one of my favorite things about pregnancy.

I'm still in all of my regular clothes and haven't seen much change with my body yet but I'm sure it's coming soon! I'm actually excited about getting a belly too! Is that weird? I love a pregnant belly!

I'm planning on keeping this pregnancy documented but I'm not going to do weekly updates like last time. Maybe monthly ones? Here's the first photo documenting this pregnancy:

10/11 Months Old

Our little Eliza just gets more fun by the day! I love seeing her personality develop and learning her likes and dislikes.

You are a baby on the move. Not walking just yet but it won't be long! You just started standing on your own and learning how to balance.

With all the moving you are doing you are a bottomless pit at meal time! Breakfast usually consists of bananas, blueberries, whole grain waffles or oatmeal or eggs or yogurt. Lunch is usually pieces of Boars Head deli meat, carrots, peas or Lima beans, and maybe some left overs from the night before. Dinner is either similar to lunch or we give you whatever we are eating for dinner. You eat anything and everything!

During your 10th month I weaned you from breastfeeding and now you receive 4- 6oz bottles of formula a day. I have tried (unsuccessfully) to get you to take your formula during the day from a sippy-cup but you like your bottle. That's just not a battle I'm ready to tackle yet.

Another change in the last few weeks has been increasing the amount of time you attend an in-home daycare while I work. (This is very common in the Lawrence.) Eliza is with a friend of mine and her two children MWF from 8-12 and T/Th she is with a very sweet lady and 3 other children from 8-4 (that's a tough day!). You are doing so well away from mommy and play so well with the other children. I know this is a lot harder on me than it is on you. :)

You are a great sleeper! You go to sleep around 6:45/7 and sleep till 6:30 in the morning. You still take 2 naps a day but are starting to shorten your morning nap. You usually nap from 9-10:15am and again from 1:15-3pm.

You are a little talker all the time now-- in your own language. You squeal all day long and babble da-da-da non-stop! You also say something that sounds like ball, yes and woof-woof. You are precious and you keep us laughing all the time!

We also moved you out of your infant carseat into a convertible one. You seem to be pretty content with the change.

Aside from all of the growing and changes in the last couple of months you are still my little girl! One great thing about your little size is that you have been wearing the same clothes all summer! You are mostly in 9 month clothes now but I can still get you in some 3-6 month clothes, crazy! You are wearing a Size 3 diaper and probably weigh about 17 pounds. We will find out your official stats at your 12 month appointment next month!!

I can't even believe that you are going to be a year old in less than a month! This year has truly flown by. You are such a sweet blessing to your daddy and I. We love you so much Eliza-bug!

Swinging

Eliza always loves an outing to the park where she enjoys some time on the swings. Since it's not always convenient to run over to the park (even though it's just a 5 minute walk) we got her a swing for the backyard. It's actually an early birthday present but we thought she would enjoy having it early!

Her daddy set it up for her this morning so she got to swing before her morning nap! She looks a little hesitant in the picture below but it didn't take long to get a big smile out of her!

I know we will have many great memories with this swing!

I took a little break from blogging last month so now it's time to catch up. I think a bunch of pictures is the best way to do this.
