8 Months Old

You turned 8 months on Friday. This is my favorite age yet! You are so much fun this month -- very happy and playful!

No more sitting still for chair pictures!

A week shy of turning 8 months old you started crawling. You started showing signs of crawling around 7 months old but you really have the hang of it now! You went from rocking back and forth to a speedy crawl. You definitely prefer to scoot around than sit in one place anymore. It doesn't seem that you want to stop with just learning to crawl right now, you are quickly learning to pull up on everything. You are keeping your daddy and I on our toes!

In fact, while your dad was watching you last weekend you found one of Winston's dog bones under the sofa and put it right in your mouth! Your dad said you cried when he took it away from you! Silly girl!

Speaking of Winston, you two are buddies! He is so gentle with you and brings you his ball so you can play with him. It won't be long before you are chasing after him!

Another big development this month, your teeth are starting to come in. You started getting your first tooth around the same time you started crawling. Three days later your other bottom tooth started cutting through. It doesn't seem to bother you too much! We have been giving you some natural teething tablets and cold fruit in your mesh feeder to soothe your little gums.

You can see a tiny tooth coming in on the bottom.

You are stilll the tiniest little thing! I'm guessing you weight around 14-15 pounds? You are still wearing a Size 2 diaper and most of your clothes are 3-6 months. I'm guessing you will be in these for awhile because the weight range on most of these clothes goes up to 17 pounds. I think you will likely grow out of these in length before you fill them out.

Despite being such a little baby, you love to eat! Some new foods we've introduced you to this month are watermelon, cantelope, whole milk yogurt, and mango. You are doing pretty well with feeding yourself except that you try to put handfulls of food in your mouth at one time.

We took you out to dinner with us on Friday night to celebrate your dad finishing his first year at KU (English doctorate program). I can't remember the last time we took you out to dinner because your bedtime is at 6 (you sleep from 6-6:30 am) and I don't like to keep you up but you did really well at dinner. I brought a variety of foods to keep you occupied with and you also spent some time sitting with each of us.

Beginning on Saturday, we are embarking on a month long visit with our families in the south. I can't wait! First stop is Birmingham to spend a few days with Will's family. Then we are heading to South Carolina to spend some time in Greenville and Seabrook/Charleston-- so excited for this! After 2 weeks with my parents Eliza and I are heading back to Birmingham to spend another week with Will's family!

Eliza, you are such a wonderful daughter and your daddy and I love you so much! We are so excited to get to spend the next month sharing you day in and day out with our families. I don't think they are going to let us come back to Kansas after seeing how fun and cute you are!

Crawling

Eliza really started crawling in the last few days (she will be 8 months old tomorrow)! She's been showing signs of it for the last few weeks but she definitely has the hang of it now. This seems like her first BIG milestone. I know there have been others... starting solids, rolling over, sitting up, sleeping through the night :) but this just seems like a major one... she's on the move now!

Here she is in action!

Eliza has been taking some great naps lately with all of the activity and movement while she is awake. I'm looking forward to more fun playtime when she wakes up!

A Special Date

Will has always been a great date planner! I think what makes his dates so much fun is that he thinks through all the details...a fun experience, unique location, good food, etc. Well, on Sunday afternoon he planned a surprise date for us and it certainly did not disappoint!

He gave me a few clues throughout the week as little teasers. They were... A back porch, horses, a picture of a restaurant in a lodge-like atmosphere, casual dress (I needed to know what to wear) :). Anyways, I was excited!

I didn't find out where we were going or what we were doing until we arrived.

We spent the afternoon and evening at the Circle S Ranch. It was only 20 minutes from our house and it was the perfect place to spend a little R&R time with the hubs.

The weather on Sunday could not have been more beautiful! We strolled around the property just enjoying some quiet time together and the peaceful scenery.

The Circle S Ranch is also a  venue for weddings and receptions. Many of the touches around the property looked very Pinterest inspired.

Will also treated me to a massage at the Spa. My favorite!

Dinner was delicious. It was so nice to just sit and enjoy each other's company and have adult conversation without entertaining little miss. :) Of course after a few hours away I was ready to be reunited with Eliza. (Not sure how I'm going to spend 3 night away from her when Will and I go to NYC in July!)

Thank you Will for such a special date and for celebrating my first Mother's Day so well!

First Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day!

How fun to celebrate my 1st Mother's Day! I am so thankful to be Eliza's momma! I have wanted to be a mother for as long as I can remember and it is truly such a blessing!

I am also very thankful for my mom!

And for my Momma C!

Eliza and I can't wait to spend time with y'all this summer! Love you!

Will has a surprise date planned for me and him this evening! Can't wait!

Eliza's Baptism

Eliza was baptized a few weeks ago when my parents were in town. She was baptized at Grace Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Lawrence, Kansas. We started attending Grace when we moved to Lawrence last July and most of the women I am friends with also attend church with us. It's a really great community with many young families and lots of children!

Eliza was baptized on April 21st.
(The man standing behind us is an elder at Grace.)

Eliza was all smiles during the service and even made a few sweet squeals!

                             She kept watch over the congregation during most of Pastor Bill's talk.

Will and I made three vows:

1. Do you acknowledge your child's need of the cleansing blood of Jesus Christ, & the renewing grace of the Holy Spirit?
2. Do you claim God's covenant promises on her behalf, & do you look in faith to the Lord Jesus Christ for her salvation, as you do your own?
3. Do you now unreservedly dedicate your child to God, & promise, in humble reliance upon divine grace, that you will endeavor to set before her a godly example, that you will pray with & for her, that you will teach her the doctrines of our holy religion, & that you will strive, by all the means of God's appointment, to bring her up in the nurture & admonition of the Lord?

He's talking to you now Miss Eliza.

Our little convenant child.

Pastor Bill saying a prayer for Eliza.

Happy girl! She had the congregation laughing and smiling along with her.

It was a very special day for our family. And now we have the tremendous responsibilty (and joy) of shepherding our daughter and setting a godly example for her. We love you so much Eliza Burke Cunningham! We are praying that you will trust in Jesus as a child. I often sing the words of this hymn to you...

  1. ’Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus,
    Just to take Him at His Word;
    Just to rest upon His promise,
    And to know, “Thus saith the Lord!”
    • Refrain:
      Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him!
      How I’ve proved Him o’er and o’er;
      Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus!
      Oh, for grace to trust Him more!
  2. Oh, how sweet to trust in Jesus,
    Just to trust His cleansing blood;
    And in simple faith to plunge me
    ’Neath the healing, cleansing flood!
  3. Yes, ’tis sweet to trust in Jesus,
    Just from sin and self to cease;
    Just from Jesus simply taking
    Life and rest, and joy and peace.
  4. I’m so glad I learned to trust Thee,
    Precious Jesus, Savior, Friend;
    And I know that Thou art with me,
    Wilt be with me to the end.
