Baby Gear Ideas

Eliza is growing quickly and I want to be ready with baby "must-haves" when the time comes. I would love some thoughts and recommendations on some baby products for the next 6 - 12 months (toys, other playtime activities, highchair, feeding products, safety items, etc.)

Highchair  Here are some I'm thinking about but I'm open to suggestions!

Graco Blossom 4-in-1 High Chair
Chicco Polly Luxor High Chair
Graco Duo Diner 2-in-1 High Chair
Food Preparation  Any thoughts between these two?

BEABA Babycook
Baby Bullet
ExerSaucer/Jumperoo I'm pretty sure little Eliza is going to love this little contraption just not sure which one...

Evenflo Exersaucer
Baby Einstein Musical ExerSaucer
Fisher Price Rainforest Jumperoo
Walkers Do you like these? Are they necessary?

Chicco Little Driver Walker
Toys  I'm open to any and all suggestions.

  1. I have the OXO Sprout high chair and I LOVE it! Obviously Banks hasn't used it yet, but my niece uses it all the time and its awesome. Its a little pricey, but I think worth it. My sister has a fancy Svan Signet highchair and she prefers mine :)

  2. We have the OXO Sprout high chair and I love it too! Definitely worth the money.

I have the Beaba Babycook, and really like that I can steam and blend all in one container so there is less mess to clean up afterwards. I haven't used it that much though- it seems to be less expensive and easier to just buy organic baby food rather than make my own.

We have the Baby Einstein jumper, and it's okay. He loves to bounce so that keeps him content, but the toys on it don't really interest him. I think the jumpers are great for burning off energy!

Thomas loves the Infantino vibrating teether and the Munchkin mesh teether. He loves frozen fruit in the mesh teether. Definitely a great investment when Eliza starts teething!

  3. We use this: http://www.amazon.com/Fisher-Price-Healthy-Deluxe-Booster-Green/dp/B0000DEW8N/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1352225953&sr=8-2&keywords=booster+seat instead of a high chair. Saves space and easy to clean, also easy to bring along on road trips etc. We love it!

If you have a food processor or blender, skip the baby food maker! You can puree everything on your own. It's such a short time period that she'll only eat purees that it's easy to just use the tools you already have. Gray was obsessed with his jumper while the time lasted, but he became too tall for it too fast. But it's a great thing to have!

PS - Eliza has the sweetest little legs! Such a cutie.

  4. for highchairs, i think the most important feature is how easily you can clean it. make sure the cover comes off easily and can be wiped down (or i've even thrown mine in the washing machine). the less crevices and compartments on the trays, the easier it is to clean. that baby food gets everywhere! and if you can get the tray on and off with one hand (because you're usually holding a baby in the other) that's helpful too.

i've just used my regular food processor to make baby food and have had no problems with it. i'm not sure if it's worth purchasing a separate piece of equipment or not.

we have used exersaucers and jumpers. i would not recommend the walker. i don't think they're as safe. some kids love the exersaucer/jumpers, but others don't. you may want to wait until she's big enough to try them out (at church nursery or a friends house) and see how she likes them before you invest a lot in them. they also take up a lot of space, so if you don't have a lot of room you may want to pick one or the other. or keep one in the living room and one in her room/guest room/etc.

hope that helps! i have no doubt that sweet eliza will be thoroughly spoiled :) especially with Christmas coming!

  5. First off, I've loved reading about little Eliza and seeing all her pictures - she's absolutely adorable! We have the Graco 4-1 high chair and have loved it. We're about to move Adeline to the booster that attaches to the chair because I think she wants to be right at the table. I especially like how it has a straight back so in the beginning when she first started eating, it had her sitting up straight and not leaning back. The cover also washes real easily in the washer. I made her baby food just using a food processor and bought the little trays to freeze everything in - very easy! Christin (Reichert)

  6. Thank y'all for your thoughts and suggestions! It definitely helps me sort through what is "necessary" and what is not. I think I'll be making a trip to Buy Buy Baby soon to touch and feel highchairs, exersaucers, etc. Thanks again!

  7. Number one....hmmm I got the space saver one that hooks onto a seat so I can sit at level with him & help feed :) number two...YES I haven't used mine yet of course but I can't wait. number 3...I've heard a lot of reviews on the third one being the best :) & I got the combi walker...we put matthew's older cousin in it and he loved it. They have a pink one too. Look up combi walker :)

  8. From a (the) Dad's perspective: $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
