Keepin' Busy

Oh, how these last few weeks are already feeling long! I'm trying to be patient (I know Eliza will come when she's ready) BUT I'm just so excited and ready to meet her! I had a good doctor's appointment on Tuesday and found out that my body is making progress towards labor. :) How fast it will progress and when she will come is to be determined. I do know that if she hasn't arrived by 41 weeks I will be induced. I'm hoping that isn't the case and she will arrive before that but we shall see!

In the meantime, we are enjoying time with new friends, going on dates and resting up for the weeks and months ahead.

Tomorrow night we have invited a group from Will's English program over for a cookout. I'm really looking forward to meeting the folks Will is going to be spending the next 5 years studying with and I'm excited to have people into our new home. We figured with Eliza arriving in a few weeks we better go ahead and plan something or else it will be a few  months (I'm guessing) before I am up for it again.

Saturday Will has a surprise date planned for us! I really love these. He has always been a good date planner (he took me on lots of them during our 2 1/2 years of dating) so I'm excited to see what we're going to do this weekend. When we were in college I was so good about taking pictures (probably too many picutres!) so here are some of us on dates during that time...

Our first "unofficial" date at the Carolina Cup.
Sorority Formal -- probably one of my favorite pictures from early on.
One of many great dates to the Biltmore (many great memories here, including out engagement!)
My birthday date while we were on Beach Project in Myrtle Beach
One of our favorite date spots -- Skytop Apple Orchard.
First trip to the farm with Will.
My favorite date Will has ever planned, our engagement!
Looking through all of these pictures is making me reminisce about our 2 1/2 years of dating and almost 3 years of marriage. Can't believe we've been together for over 5 years! It has been quite an adventure being married to Will and I expect that to continue. :) I am so thankful for the 3 years of marriage with just the two of us and now is the perfect time for our little girl to become a part of our family! I can't wait to see what the next 5 years hold...

Speaking of adventures with my husband, Will is keeping busy with critter control in our attic! Ugh... Earlier this week I woke up in the middle of the night to sounds in our house (well, in our ceilings) and it scared me! As it turns out, we have a family of raccoons that have decided to take up residence in our attic. Eew, this makes me squirm! Will ventured up into our attic this morning-- found the momma and the nest of babies. All day today I have heard them scratch, cry and scurry around. It is driving me crazy but it also makes me sad that we can't do anything for them. Will decided that even for him this might be more than he wants to tackle. So for now we are waiting for Critter Control to come take care of our raccoon infestation in the morning. Oh the joys of home ownership...

36 Weeks

Will is so very patient with me every week when we take these pictures!
Thought I'd share all my different poses this week. So cheesy, I know!
How Far Along? 36 Weeks 3 Days.
Size of Baby? A Honeydew.
Maternity Clothes? Of course.
Weight Gain? Not sure. Our scale is broken but I'll find out at my doctor appointment tomorrow.
Stretch Marks? Nothing. But I have plenty of lovely veins on my legs to make up for it. :)
Gender? GIRL!
Movement? Strong jabs and hiccups several times a day.
Sleep? Oh, this has been alright. I'm trying to sleep as much as I can but I toss and turn a lot.
Food Cravings? Watermelon & Peaches! These are staples in my diet.
What I Miss? I'm not really missing anything today. I actually really love being pregnant (most days)!
Symptoms? Some pain with my sciatic nerve-- definitely not a highlight of pregnancy.
Belly Button? Outie.
Best Moment of the Week? Well, I had so much fun having maternity pictures taken on Thursday! I'm really glad we decided to get them done, even if we just do it this one time.

We had a very low-key weekend so I "played" in Eliza's room and set-up a few items. Can't wait to meet our little butter bean!!

Late Pregnancy

With less than 4 weeks to go of this 40 week countdown I thought I would summarize my first experience with pregnancy -- the highs and the lows! :) Thankfully I can think of many more highs than lows but regardless I think I would be ready to go through it again.

1st Trimester

Highs:
  • Finding out that I was pregnant!
  • Sharing the news with our parents-- I don't think I'll ever forget how sweet it was telling my parents that they were going to be grandparents!
  • Hearing our baby's heart beat for the first time
  • Having our first ultrasound
Lows:
  • Having pneumonia the first few weeks of pregnancy
  • Nausea for about 5 weeks
  • Fainting at Stein Mart
2nd Trimester

Highs:
  • Feeling like myself again
  • Energy!
  • Working out regularly
  • Having an appetite
  • Finding out the gender of Baby C
  • Starting to actually look like I was pregnant
  • Baby Showers!
  • Foot rubs from Will!
Lows:
  • Spider veins on my legs (unfortunately these have only gotten worse...)
  • Switching doctors because of our move to Kansas (this was probably one of the most stressful things of my whole pregnancy)
3rd Trimester

Highs:
  • Setting up Eliza's nursery
  • Nearing the time when we get to meet our little girl!
  • A prenatal massage (from some sweet friends for my birthday!)
  • More foot rubs from Will...so thankful for these! (and all of his support during pregnancy)
Lows:
  • The return of tiredness and the need for afternoon naps
  • Little motivation to exercise (this drives me crazy because I LOVE working out and being in shape)
  • Having a sore/achy body (that's obviously not from working out) :)
  • Craving sweets (and giving into it). Will would probably consider this a positive thing because he's been getting more sweets than normal too...
So that pretty much sums up the past 36 weeks in terms of my experiences with pregancy.

And since I actually worked out today (not just put on workout clothes) I thought I'd document that...

35 Weeks

How Far Along? 35 Weeks 3 Days.
Size of Baby? A Coconut.
Maternity Clothes? Yes, dresses are my favorite!
Weight Gain? 26 pounds (feeling very pregnant and a little chunky...)
Stretch Marks? Not yet.
Gender? GIRL!
Movement? Frequent rolls and jabs. I feel her elbows in my side almost daily.
Sleep? Pretty good-- with lots of flipping throughout the night. (And Will says I'm snoring too...)
Food Cravings? Still loving the sweets (made a peach cobbler on Saturday!) but doing my best to eat lots of fruits and veggies.
What I Miss? Having my old (non-achy) body back! :)
Symptoms? Continuing to experience occasional Braxton Hicks contractions this week.
Belly Button? An outie.
Best Moment of the Week? It's one I'm looking forward to this week... maternity pictures with a local photographer in Lawrence on Thursday! I went back & forth deciding whether or not to get these done but decided in the end to do it. Maybe we'll just get them done with this first baby. :) We also scheduled a newborn session with this same photographer for 1-2 weeks after Eliza's arrival. Can't believe we are down to the last month!!

Self-Consciousness

Over the past couple of weeks I've been reading through Oswald Chambers devotional, My Utmost for His Highest. I really love this devotional and seem to pick it up randomly through out the year. Maybe next year I will begin on January 1 and read it through to December 31? I've yet to do that. Regardless, whenever I read it I read that day's devotion (except today when I read August 18 & 19). The title of tomorrow's devotion caught my attention, Self-Consciousness (probably because I know it's something I struggle with). Below is an excerpt that spoke to me...

"Self-consciousness is the first thing that will upset the completeness of the life in God, and self-consciousness continually produces wrestling. Self-consciousness is not a sin; it may be produced by a nervous temperament or by a sudden dumping into new circumstances. It is never God's will that we should be anything less than absolutely complete in Him. Anything that disturbs rest in Him must be cured at once, and it is not cured by being ignored, but by coming to Jesus Christ. If we come to Him and ask Him to produce Christ-consciousness, He will always do it until we learn to abide in Him."

"Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." Matthew 11:28

Eliza's Nursery!

I've been thinking about our little girl's nursery for quite awhile! Several months ago I posted my nursery inspiration board and I think I stayed right on track with it. This was by FAR the most fun room that I've ever decorated! Will thinks the room is beyond girly. :) I can't wait to spend hours on end with our sweet Eliza in here!

And a few details of the room. (I think this is what makes decorating a nursery so fun!)

Can you tell that I love her name and monogram? :)

I'm so happy with the end result. Now I'm just excitedly awaiting her arrival!

34 Weeks

How Far Along? 34 Weeks 3 Days (only 38 days till Eliza's due date!! I have a feeling she may come early though.)
Size of Baby? A Butternut Squash.
Maternity Clothes? Yes and I'm getting tired of them now. :)
Weight Gain? 26 pounds. I think this is supposed to slow down soon but apparently I've gained 2 pounds in 2 weeks.
Stretch Marks? Still nothing. I guess my skin just stretches well!
Gender? GIRL!
Movement? She's moving all the time-- lots of rolling, jabs and hiccups!
Sleep? Pretty good. I think me & my pillows are taking up about 75% of the bed these days...sorry Will!
Food Cravings? Peaches and still loving the sweets!
What I Miss? Bending over without feeling like I'm squishing my little girl. I also miss reaching my toes so it looks like I'm going to need to go for a pedicure before Eliza's arrival. :)
Symptoms? Felt pretty great this week! I did start noticing some Braxton Hicks contractions on Saturday evening. They don't last very long but they can be kinda painful... my body is just getting ready for what's to come!
Belly Button? An outie.
Best Moment of the Week? My doctor's appointment last Friday and having an ultrasound! Since I switched doctors midway though the pregnancy my new doctor wanted to get updated images and measurements of Eliza. I was thrilled about this! We learned that SHE is, in fact, still a GIRL :). She weighs approximately 4.5 pounds and is a healthy growing baby! Woohoo! All good things a momma to hear.

I received a very sweet care package from a dear friend on Friday too! She has an embroidery business, Two Sisters Embroidery, and loaded Eliza up with some southern baby essentials! Thank you Riley! I hope this little girl likes monograms as much as her momma does!

Outside Progress

I could also title this post something like "Labor of Love" because that is exactly what my sweet husband is doing outside. I'm so proud of how hard he's been working out there -- not to mention it's been over 100 most days this past month!

Unfortunately yard work is not always as instantly gratifying as painting a room or changing out a light fixture. The kind of yard work he's doing is going to take some time. Regardless, I thought it would be nice to keep his hard work documented so we can FULLY appreciate it when it's all complete!

After having 22 trees cut down in the back yard and trees trimmed in the front, Will is re-working the landscaping (or lack there of). Since the planting of grass won't happen till fall he is keeping busy re-building rock walls, making nice paths along the side of the house, and raking up all the dead stuff... :)

This path runs along the side of the house-- leading from the driveway to the backyard.

Will is currently working on this walkway in our backyard.
I'm so thankful for his motivation to take care of these projects!

One day (when it wasn't 100+ degrees) I ventured outside for a little work too! My work consisted of spray painting our patio table & chairs as well as re-finishing a gliding bench that the previous owners left.

33 Weeks

How Far Along? 33 Weeks 3 Days!
Size of Baby? A Honeydew or a Durian. (I can't say I've ever heard of this before.)
Maternity Clothes? Yes, I had to breakdown and get a couple of maternity tanks from Target because my belly was outgrowing my regular ones.
Weight Gain? 25 pounds.
Stretch Marks? Not yet.
Gender? Eliza Burke Cunningham
Movement? She's wiggling away as I type this post. I think I'm really going to miss these sweet movements.
Sleep? It's still been great! So thankful. I did nap a couple of days this week.
Food Cravings? More sweets! I am doing my best to eat healthy most of the time so I can splurge on the sweets I've been craving.
What I Miss? Good workouts and long runs. I can't wait to take Eliza on runs with me in the BOB stroller!
Symptoms? Tiredness & leg cramps (oh my goodness, these hurt so much!)
Belly Button? It's an outie!
Best Moment of the Week? Overall, I'd say just nearing the end of pregnancy (though I've loved being pregnant) and meeting our daughter in about 6 weeks!! Having her nursery all set up, clothes washed, baby class completed...I'm just excited and ready to meet Eliza!

Work Week

I had a quiet week at home by myself. Will took off for Quincy, IL on Monday morning to do some work and "play" on their hunting land. While I worked during the day, Winston and I had projects to complete in the evenings.

Well actually, Winston did this...

While I painted this...
This table used to be a light teal (which I loved) but it just didn't match the decor in Will's man cave. :)

Speaking of the man cave, it's about done. There are now a variety of Will's trophies hanging on the walls and Will has settled into his office/at-home study. I'm so thankful our house has this space for him (although I join him down there quite often).

Another project of the week was washing Miss Eliza's clothes. I know I may be a little early washing all of her clothes but I was overly excited to do it AND I want to be prepared!

The sweetest & pinkest pile of laundry I've ever done.

In other news, Target has the cutest soap dispenser designed by Orla Kiely. I couldn't resist because it is  covered in all of my favorite colors. It's now sitting by our kitchen sink.

Will is on his way back to Lawrence now and I look forward to having a quiet weekend with him. But I do have a few projects for him to help me complete! Sunday afternoon is going to be a fun one for us-- a Babycare workshop at the hospital where we are going to learn some of the basics of caring for our little one! I can't wait!

Have a wonderful weekend!
