First Impressions

We have been in Kansas for almost a week now and I have nothing but good things to say about it! We really hit the ground running and have stayed busy (and on track) with the goals of our trip.

But first, I had so much fun when we arrived making the drive from Kansas City to Lawrence (about 40 miles) just soaking in the landscape. It was a beautiful day (in fact, it's been absolutely beautiful all week) and we drove past many fields like the one below.

After checking into our hotel (we love where we are staying-- more about that later) and "nesting" we set out to explore our new hometown. The first stop was a drive through KU's campus. It is a beautiful campus and more importantly, Will loves it and excited about spending the next 5 years studying on it.

Next up was a drive through several neighborhoods of Lawrence where we had seen listings online that we were interested in. It was great to FINALLY be able to get a full picture of the  neighborhoods and homes we'd been looking at for months. I was quite giddy driving around!

Driving around Lawrence-- there are hills and lots of trees! :)
Once we made a loop around Lawrence we headed back to our hotel (it was about time for Will to feed his hungry pregnant wife). The hotel we are staying in is located at the north end of downtown and is within walking distance to many delicious restaurants! We have been to the local Thai, Indian, Mexican, and Japanese restaurant (we really like ethnic food)! We also enjoyed the local favorite, Free State Brewery. Will liked the beer, I liked my water!

Sunday morning we visited a church in Lawrence and really loved it! It reminds us both of the church we love and are members of in Tuscaloosa. We plan to attend again this Sunday and learn more about it.

After driving around town on Saturday, Will was ready to show me what Kansas is really like on Sunday. We made a 4 hour loop into the farmland! :) We took many small country roads and I was very busy taking pictures of every farm we passed. Will jokingly said that he wanted to take a picture of me taking pictures. Guess I was that amusing? Below is one of the many farms that I captured.

With two full days of driving around Lawrence and the surrounding farmland, we were ready to start house hunting first thing Monday morning. We met up with our realtor and we saw a number of houses on Monday. It didn't take us too long to figure out what area of town we wanted to live in--- based upon the neighborhood, proximity to campus, and surrounding area. So then the search began to find the right house in our price range in that neighborhood! And I'll just leave it at that for now...
