19 Weeks

How Far Along? 19 Weeks 3 Days.
Size of Baby? A Mango (6 inches, 10 ounces).
Maternity Clothes? I'm continuing to wear my regular dresses and tops as long as possible but my shorts and pants all have a wonderful elastic waistband!
Weight Gain? 13 pounds!
Stretch Marks? Nope.
Gender? Sweet baby girl!
Movement? I felt the first kick yesterday when I was out by the pool with some friends! It was a very distinct feeling and it was even hard enough to feel on the outside. My friends put their hands on my belly and felt it too! SO happy to feel my little girl moving around. :)
Sleep? It's been pretty good. I'm still going to bed early most night (between 9:30 and 10) but I've started waking up very early! Some mornings as early as 5! I lie in bed trying to go back to sleep but after 10 or 15 minutes I'm ready to get up.
Food Cravings? Oranges and watermelon.
What I Miss? Nothing this week.
Symptoms? I'm feeling great! Really enjoying my daily workouts and exercise videos.
Belly Button? In.
Best Moment of the Week? Spending the weekend in Birmingham with two of my very good friends. I'm going to miss them so much when we move!

Craft Night

On Friday my good friend (and college roommate) Jamie and I had a little craft night. We made some little onesies for my baby girl. I bought a pack of Gerber onesies from Target and picked up a selection of iron-on appliques from Michaels and Jo-Anns. They were so easy to make and very inexpensive. I think they add so much cuteness to the otherwise very plain onesie.

I am looking forward to making other things for our little girl along the way!

Picture of our baby girl...

With the busyness of the coming weeks (and my eagerness) we headed to Birmingham this afternoon to begin our GIRL's registry at Buy Buy Baby. What a great store! We had such a fun time bopping around the store together. :)

Before heading back to Tuscaloosa, we stopped by Will's sister and husband's house. Our good friends Jamie and Clark also came by to congratulate us and give our little girl a sweet present. Thank you Jamie and Clark!

And a few more happy pictures...
A very proud momma and daddy!
Celebrating!
My very sweet friend Jamie!

Prenatal Workouts

After a 6 week hiatus from exercising due to first trimester morning sickness I was eager to get back into a  workout routine! Prior to finding out that I was pregnant I was training for the Rock n' Roll Nashville half marathon with my good friend Jamie. I had hopes of doing it even though I was pregnant (my doctor said it would be fine) but I quickly realized that running while pregnant is not for me. I wish it was but I have to listen to my body. Although I miss running in this beautiful springtime weather I've found some alternate forms of exercise that I'll share.

First of all, I try to do at least 30 minutes of cardio activity 6 days a week. This might be something as low-intensity as taking our little shih-tzu, Winston, on a 30 minute walk or playing a very friendly game of tennis with my husband. When I opt for the gym I use the stationary bike, elliptical, or rowing machine (I don't trust myself on a treadmill on right now). I have cut back on the time and intensity that I used to spend on these machines as I'm just trying to maintain a healthy lifestyle during pregnancy. From everything I've read regarding exercise during pregnancy it is very good for momma and the baby! Below are some fun facts I've learned from a Mayo Clinic article .

Why exercise during pregnancy?
-Ease or prevent back pain and other discomforts
-Boost your energy level
-Prevent excess weight gain
-Reduce the risk of gestational diabetes, pregnancy-related high blood pressure and postpartum depression
-Increase stamina and muscle strength, which helps you prepare for labor.

I'm usually not much of a workout video user but I recently purchased two pregnancy specific workout DVD's from Amazon to try. :) (My husband has already gotten plenty of laughs from this!)

Summer Sanders' Prenatal Workout10 Minute Solution: Prenatal Pilates

The first is a cardio and toning workout that breaks up the exercises into trimesters. I just got it last week so I've been doing the 2nd trimester workout and have really enjoyed it! I think this will be especially nice to have for motivation when I'm in the 3rd trimester. I decided to buy a pilates workout too because I've heard how good muscle strength and flexibility is during pregnancy. It's also nice that each segment is only 10 minutes so I can do it with something else or as an express workout.

So far, I'm loving the energy that comes with the 2nd trimester and incorporating exercise into my daily routine!

17 Weeks

How Far Along? 17 Weeks 3 Days.
Size of Baby? A turnip. (5 inches, 5 ounces) I really love having a growing baby bump!
Maternity Clothes? Yes. Really loving the elastic waistbands in all of my shorts and skirts.
Weight Gain? 10 pounds. It's looking like a pound a week! Maybe this will slow down... :)
Stretch Marks? Nope.
Gender? We find out in 1 week!!!
Movement? Not really sure, maybe a few flutters? I'm ready for some kicks!
Sleep? This hasn't been so good recently. I'm not supposed to be sleeping on my back (and I never thought I did) but I do so I find that I'm tossing and turning a lot at night.
Food Cravings? I can't wait for peaches to be in season. They are by far my favorite fruit!
What I Miss? Brie cheese with Carrs crackers and pear slices. Yum!
Symptoms? Clumsiness...I was definitely clumsy before being pregnant but I think it's gotten worse. I drop things at least 2-3 times a day.
Belly Button? In.
Best Moment of the Week? Getting to spend time with my immediate and extended family for a couple of days. My grandmother's funeral brought us all together but it has definitely been a sweet time to gather with close friends and family.

On a funny note, due to my tossing and turning at night, I invested in a Snoogle (said to be the mother of all pregnancy pillows) this weekend. I hope this oddly shaped body pillow brings more rest and comfort to my nights.

G~Mama Ethel

My grandmother Ethel went to be with the Lord this morning. It was only 3 weeks ago that she was admitted to the hospital with what the doctors first thought was pneumonia. The pneumonia-like symptoms turned out to be Hypersensitivity pneumonitis (an inflammation in the lungs). Although my grandmother was in excellent health prior to this sickness it took hold of her quickly and the doctors soon realized she was not going to recover. When my grandmother passed away she was surrounded by her husband, sister and daughters. While this event is very sudden and hard on my family, we are all thankful that she was living a very full and joyful life up to the point of my mom taking her to the hospital 3 weeks ago. We also know that my grandmother loved the Lord and she is in His presence now. In that truth we can Rejoice! Below is a verse I've been reflecting on regarding our life in Christ and taking great comfort in.

But our citizenship is in heaven.
And we eagerly await a Savior from there,
the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables him
to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies
so that they will be like his glorious body.
Philippians 3:20-21

My husband and I will be joining my parents, grandfather, and many other family members and friends in Greenville this weekend to mourn the death and celebrate the life of my wonderful G-mama Ethel. In light of that, pictured below are some very fond memories I have with my sweet grandmother.

Happy 2 1/2 Years!

Since I happened to notice that today is exactly 6 months till our 3 year anniversary, I wanted to recognize it! Our 3 year anniversary is October 10, 2012 and since Baby Cunningham is due September 21 we will have a wonderful new addition in our home!!

I love you William!

Weekly Menu

From about the 5th week of pregnancy to the 10th week I could hardly stand the smell of food, more or less planning our meals and preparing them. So that meant a lot of take-out meals or eating whatever simple food sounded good at the time. Feeling nauseous for several weeks and not knowing what I wanted to eat was definitely a low point of the first trimester. Glad that's all behind me now!

The past couple of weeks I've been getting back into the groove of planning our meals for the week and making one big grocery trip to Publix on Sunday. In an effort to continue with this, I'm going to try and post our weekly dinner menu. I always love reading on other blogs what recipes friends are enjoying, so maybe they will get ideas from here too. Although we are almost half way through the week I thought I'd go ahead and post this weeks menu because we are having some of my favorites!

Sunday: Dinner out-- on the road from Augusta to Tuscaloosa.

Monday: Grilled Salmon Sandwiches (these are a favorite in our home!) and Corn on the Cob

Tuesday: Tomato Pie (recipe below) and a Grilled Chicken Salad

Wednesday: Mexican Lasagna

Thursday: Leftovers

Friday: Date Night

Saturday: Tomato-Chicken-Spinach Linguine (recipe below) and a Salad

1 Lg. sweet onion (sliced thin)
2 Lg. tomatoes (sliced)
1/2 C monterrey jack cheese (grated)
1/2 C sharp cheese (grated)
1/2 C mayonnaise (I use light)

Instructions:
Cook pie crust according to package instructions. Alternate layers of onions and tomatoes (2 layers). Mix cheese and mayonnaise -- spread on top. Bake at 350 for 35-40 minutes.

Tomato-Chicken-Spinach Linguine

16 Weeks

I guess stripes are a pregnancy favorite?
How Far Along? 16 Weeks 3 Days.
Size of Baby? An Avocado.
Maternity Clothes? Most of the pants I'm wearing are maternity and this is much more comfortable than trying to squeeze into my normal Spring clothes. I think I'll be wearing my regular shirts for awhile although I have bought a couple of cute maternity ones too.
Weight Gain? 9 pounds.
Stretch Marks? No, hopefully won't have to worry about these because my mom didn't have them!
Gender? We find out 2 weeks from today! Not too much longer.
Movement? I might have felt some flutters while we were at the Masters this weekend but I'm not 100% sure!
Sleep? It's been great for me but maybe not so much for Will. I've been snoring recently and waking him up...
Food Cravings? I'm enjoying pretty much anything.
What I Miss? An occasional cocktail or glass of wine. Will and I have been on a couple of dates when I've missed ordering a fruity cocktail. :)
Symptoms? None, feeling great!
Belly Button? In.
Best Moment of the Week? Enjoying a beautiful Easter weekend at the Masters with my husband. We had such a fun time cheering for Phil and Bubba. For those of you who suggested the Pimento cheese and Egg salad sandwiches, I ate my fair share of them this weekend!
Heading to the Masters!

A New Wardrobe

Well not entirely.... but I am shopping at some new stores! After investing in a pair of maternity jeans this weekend and seeing how amazing an elastic waist band is I'm definitely wanting more maternity pants. In fact, I was trying on some shorts today that fit me a mere two weeks ago and now there's no chance I'll be wearing them this year! When Will got home and I showed him my dilemma he told me I could go shopping. :)

There's not much in the way of maternity shopping in Tuscaloosa so I went to the only maternity specific store, Motherhood Maternity. It's not my favorite but it does have some good basic items-- solid color tees and shorts-- at a very reasonable price! So I guess it was a good place to start. I left with a jean skirt and a pair of shorts.

Skirt
Other stores I plan on visiting when I go to Birmingham are A Pea in the Pod and The Swanky Stork. Being one that enjoys shopping I think it's fun to see what is available for pregnant women! Maternity clothes aren't something that I want to invest much money in but I do want to have some cute items and feel comfortable. With that being said, here are a few cute things I would like to add to my wardrobe.
Trapeze Tank Top
Maxi Dress
Eyelet Top

15 Weeks

There's a little bump!
How Far Along? 15 Weeks 4 Days.
Size of Baby? A Navel Orange.
Maternity Clothes? Starting to need some bigger pants. :) I bought some linen pants from Old Navy (not maternity but they have an elastic waistband) and they have been very comfortable to wear during this in between phase. I also got my first pair of maternity jeans this weekend! I love them!
Weight Gain? 7 pounds. I've been SO hungry all week I'm surprised it's not more!
Stretch Marks? Nope.
Gender? Not too much longer till we find out!
Movement? From what I read Baby C is moving a lot I just can't feel him/her yet.
Sleep? Getting as much as I can.
Food Cravings? More fruit. Also, sweet potatoes.
What I Miss? Can't think of anything I miss this week...
Symptoms? Just really hungry all the time!
Belly Button? In.
Best Moment of the Week? Spending several days in Greenville with family last week was really great. I know there aren't going to be too many more trips to Greenville before we move to Kansas so I'm really enjoying the time I have there!
